He used to say that he had seen his father kneeling and praying quite often and it had a great impact on his spiritual life. He described their modest apartment as a kind of “domestic seminary.” His father was a Polish Army lieutenant and his mother was a school teacher. They were married in Krakow in 1906 and had three children, Pope John Paul was the youngest. Pope John Paul II led the Catholic Church from October 16, 1978, until his death on April 2nd, 2005. He was the 3rd longest-serving Pontiff in Church history and was declared a saint in 2014.
