Prevented: Macron Will Not Deliver Speech Inside Notre Dame Cathedral

President Emmanuel Macron will deliver his speech in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on the occasion of its reopening on 7 December.

It was previously announced that he would speak inside the cathedral. Macron's speech has provoked strong reactions in recent weeks, especially among Catholics.

On 13 November, the Élysée announced that Macron would give a "short speech" and only "on the forecourt" of the cathedral. This would ensure "respect for the principle of the separation of Church and State".

The Élysée stressed that the decision was taken to put an end to the "beginnings of a controversy" that had arisen when there was talk of Macron's appearance inside the cathedral.

Macron and foreign leaders will attend the liturgy in the cathedral on 7 and 8 December. The big absentee is Francis.

Of course the Holy Father should attend and, as the Supreme Pontiff and Chief Shepherd of Holy Mother Church, joyfully officiate and preside over the glorious re-opening and rededication of Our Lady’s own Cathedral in Paris, capital of the Eldest Daughter of the Church. There should be NO QUESTION about it, nor any hesitation on his part or the part of any of those involved with the planning and implementation of the ceremonies, and he is vastly ill-advised by whomever is guiding him in this erroneous decision, as usual. 🙄 Perhaps if a “Pachamama” was being offered on the High Altar of Notre Dame Cathedral or if it were being declared and proclaimed as a “multi-religious space” for some sort of ecumenical “worship” experience, then the Holy Father would find the time, energy and inclination to personally attend and preside over the Liturgy as Chief Celebrant. Oh well, it is what it is and we are where we are. 😐😳
