Abuse Hoax: He May Serve Again

In March, Portuguese Father Mário Rui Pedras was accused by the bishops’ “independent” commission of “experts” of homosexual abuse and immediately removed (LaVanguardia.com, June 21).

Pedras is the parish priest of Lisbon’s St Nicholas and St Mary Magdalene Church and spiritual counsellor and confessor to André Ventura, the leader of the Portuguese opposition. Little did it help him that he adamantly denied the allegations.

The same “experts” who accused him also claim that there are presently “dozens” active priests in Portugal suspected of “pederasty” [= mostly homosexual abuse]. They uncovered “at least” 4,800 victims of "paedophilia”. In reality, there might be a few dozen over the time span of 80 years among tens of thousands of priests.

Mid-June, the investigation against Pedras was closed for lack of proof. Now, he is again allowed to serve his bishop who so miserably betrayed him.
