Brazil: Lukewarm Francis Church Has No Chance Against the Evangelicals

Evangelicals are set to overtake Catholics in Brazil, the world’s biggest Catholic country, writes Cath.ch.

• The Evangelical Caucus is the third largest force in Brazil's National Congress.

• Chamber of Deputies: 112/513 evangelical legislators (21%).

• Upper House: 15/81 evangelical senators (18.5%).

• Evangelical growth (“prosperity gospel”) has been developing for 40 years.

• Evangelicals run companies, schools, are involved in sports, culture, and media.

• Evangelicals have supplanted Vatican II Catholicism (“Liberation Theology”) particularly in the favelas.

• In the metropolitan area of São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, evangelicals are the majority of the population.

• By 2030 there will be a balance between the lukewarm Novus Ordo Christians and the Evangelicals.

I agree with you LMC. Still due to a lukewarm Church, the street talk in Philadelphia was that if you need social services go to Catholic Charities. If you want the gospel,, go to the local Pentecostal gathering.

and the sadness is, those dear people are deprived of a sacramental confession and reception of the Holy Eucharist without which "...you do not have life in you (Jn 6:53)"
