Vatican Falling Apart: Staff Cries "Alarm," "Demotivation," and "Confusion"

The Association of Vatican Employees ADLV (founded in 1985, 600 members), the Vatican trade union, is rebelling against Francis.

On August 20, it published an unsigned statement on AdlVaticano.org expressing "alarm", "demotivation" and "confusion". Strikes are forbidden in the Vatican.

ADLV complains of financial mismanagement under Francis, lack of transparency, unpublished budget balances, and meritless promotions.

The statement also laments the outsourcing of jobs including cleaning and reception services, and a "radical change of course" toward a full-fledged "corporation".

External consultants and auditing firms decide on the management of real estate and securities assets.

It was recently announced that the management of the Vatican supermarket Annona will soon be taken over by a "well-known Italian brand".

The same fate will befall other Vatican-owned companies. "We have the impression that the institution is slowly being 'deconstructed'," the statement says.

It explains that various requests for dialogue [famous "dialogue"] with Vatican superiors have fallen on deaf ears: "We have the impression that the body is falling apart."

The Vatican has a little over 5,000 people on the payroll, combining the Roman Curia and the Vatican City State. As a comparison: The Archdiocese of Cologne, Germany, has around 18'000 employees.
