Cardinal Müller and Archbishop Gänswein have urged that Leo XIV return to Benedict XVI’s liturgical rules regarding the traditional Mass.
The restrictions on the traditional liturgy which Leo has inherited from Pope Francis are among the issues many Catholics deem most pressing for the Pope to address. A number of prelates have condemned Francis’ arbitrary restrictions since 2021, and
evidence has suggested that the public defence given for the measures themselves is in fact baseless.
Gerhard Cardinal Müller and Archbishop Georg Gänswein now join the many voices urging a lifting of such restrictions, with Müller doing so via an interview with Pelican+ and Gänswein in conversation with a German Catholic outlet.
