Study: Children Overcome Transvestite Fantasies During Growing Process

Researchers in the Netherlands followed 2,700 children from the age of 11 to their mid-20s and found that only 4% of respondents said they experienced "gender dissatisfaction", down from 11% at the start of the study.

Researchers from the University of Groningen asked participants to respond to the statement "I wish I were of the opposite sex" six times over 15 years, and they were asked to answer with "0" for "not true", "1" for "somewhat or sometimes true" and "2" for "very true or often true".

The study found that 78% remained the same throughout the survey, and 19% became more satisfied with their gender.

"The results of the current study may help adolescents to realise that it is normal to have some doubts about one's identity and gender identity at this age, and that this is also relatively common," the researchers concluded.
