The Pope and the Rabbi

The Pope and the Rabbi
Humor

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Jews had to leave Rome.

Naturally there was a big uproar from the Jewish community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Jewish community. If the Jew won, the Jews could stay. If the Pope won, the Jews would leave.

The Jews realized that they had no choice. So they picked a middle-aged Rabbi named Moishe to represent them. Moishe asked for one addition to the debate. To make it more interesting, neither side would be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Moishe and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger.

The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat.

The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple.

The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Jews can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what had happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions.

Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us.

I pulled out the wine and wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Jewish community had crowded around Moishe. "What happened?" they asked. "Well," said Moishe, "First he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here." "Yes, yes, and then?" asked the crowd. "I don't know," said Moishe, "He took out his lunch, and I took out mine."

Is it just me or is GloriaTV a little liberal with her jokes? This one isn't that bad even though it does belittle the blessed Sacrament somewhat. However I have seen worse here. Sometimes you just can't make fun of things like this. 😲 🤨

Thanks Gloria.TV ... I just love your jokes ... and this one is GREAT!!! Not only is laughter the best medicine but a sense of humour is a great way to facilitate ecumenism ... we all tend to take ourselves far too seriously!

Christians In Jerusalem Want Jews To Stop Spitting On Them

When there is an attack against Jews anywhere in the world, the Israeli government is incensed, so why when our religion and pride are hurt, don’t they take harsher measures?

According to Daniel Rossing, former adviser to the Religious Affairs Ministry on Christian affairs and director of a Jerusalem center for Christian-Jewish dialogue, there has been an increase in the number of such incidents recently, “as part of a general atmosphere of lack of tolerance in the country.”

Rossing says there are certain common characeristics from the point of view of time and location to the incidents. He points to the fact that there are more incidents in areas where Jews and Christians mingle, such as the Jewish and Armenian quarters of the Old City and the Jaffa Gate.

There are an increased number at certain times of year, such as during the Purim holiday.”I know Christians who lock themselves indoors during the entire Purim holiday,” he says.

And so, the persecution, beginning with Jesus the Christ, continues.

👏 Though in the form of a joke, I immediately remembered the diplomatic situation which resulted in the final and formal schism between the East and West. That the West sent a Cardinal who spoke NO Greek, and the Byzantine Prelates who spoke NO Latin!

On the other hand, I am also reminded of the centuries of racism promoted by the Roman Church against the Jews, which resulted in many a European country ousting them in the past. This was a result of a similar lack of understandind betwixt the two (as rediculous as in the jocundity of the above post).

Let us pray for more communication and less condemnation between our elder brethern and ourselves.
