Bishop Doubts While Shops, Mosques, Synagogues Don't

Portsmouth Bishop Philip Egan, one of the best in England, doubts his decision to close the churches while he notices that many public places, including mosques and synagogues, remain open.

In a March 29 statement, Egan insists he closed the churches "very reluctantly" and for no better reason than "not to be out of step with other dioceses.”

Now, he is "sad" that he barred the faithful from praying before the Blessed Sacrament.

Despite his words, Egan doesn't make any changes but only "continues to reflect."

Ultraviolet
A distinctly English reaction. Express regret over an injustice, promise further study of the injustice, and allow the injustice to remain unchanged. Regular readers of the BBC will recognize this pattern from every NHS horror-story.

Will we all be singing a different tune if Jews and Moslems start dropping like flies while his congregation remains healthy?

Were that to happen, the Jew-haters on GTV would undoubtedly display their usual bad taste and lack of Christian charity. While admittedly, I disapprove of Islam, I certainly wouldn't gloat about such a tragedy... regardless of the victims. Taking joy in others' misfortune has an eerie way of coming back to haunt.
