As long as someone has the proper sense of shame, traditionally referred to as verecundia, there isn’t a need to be unduly judgmental towards them. This woman felt Christ’s judgment perfectly well. When pastors allow for the sense of shame to go away, as they generally have, scores and scores of people fall into the pits of presumption and despair. Repentance and firm purpose of amendment are all that is needed for restoration.
