Quimper: The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X Appears on the Horizon
He promised that 12 diocesan priests would guarantee at least two Sunday Masses in two churches (he abolished weekday Masses, catechism classes and the other sacraments).
Only two of these priests remain: Canon Queinnec and Abbé Moysan, writes PaixLiturgique.fr (28 November). Canon Queinnec is the chancellor of the diocese and Abbé Moysan is the parish priest of Morlaix.
Two other priests celebrate from time to time, one in Quimper and the other in Saint-Sève. These Novus Ordo priests, who usually preside at Eucharists, are officially trained to celebrate Mass, but they still need the altar boys to tell them what to do in the liturgy.
Meanwhile, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) appears on the horizon. It has announced that it will celebrate a monthly Mass in Lannédern, 45 km north of Quimper. At the same time, they are looking for a place in Quimper to celebrate Holy Mass.
However, there are only three FSSPX priests in the area (i.e. 70 km away) with daily Masses for two religious communities and about 400 faithful in Brest, 80 in Morlaix, 25 sick and elderly people they visit regularly and an occasional apostolate in Lannédern.
The FSSPX needs to replace its current chapel in Brest, which is too small. Nevertheless, it is ready to help the former faithful of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (between 30 and 50) who have contacted it.
In this way, the Bishop of Quimper, who wanted to abolish the Holy Mass, will find himself with additional Holy Masses.
