Technically speaking, it's good sculpture. It just isn't Mary nor does it correspond to any notion of Catholic Marian iconography. Oh. Just in case you want some basis of comparison for bad sculpture, in the sense of (as you correctly described it) garbage modern art, check out Giacometti's "Pointing Man".
