Hungary: Ukraine must end anti-Hungarian measures and abuses in Transcarpathia. "Continuous and systematic harassment and disenfranchisement of a national minority unacceptable".

"We call on the Ukrainian rulers to immediately do everything to reverse the anti-Hungarian decisions and restore the previous situation," Tamás Menczer wrote on Facebook on Thursday in connection with the increase in anti-Hungarian attacks in Transcarpathia. Magyar Nemzet recently reported that in Fornos and Derceni, two Hungarian-majority localities in Munkach municipality, flags were removed from Hungarian establishments with the help of police. The State Secretary for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said:

We do not understand exactly how anti-Hungarian decisions and actions help Ukraine in the war against Russia....

"Of course, anti-Hungarian decisions and actions are unacceptable, we condemn what happened," Tamás Menczer stressed, adding that it is also important that the unacceptable events have so far taken place in the Munkachi region, not in the whole of Transcarpathia, and we hope that we will not have to witness such anti-Hungarian actions elsewhere.

The State Secretary stressed:

"We call on the local leaders to stop the atrocities against Hungarians immediately! We call on the Ukrainian leadership to immediately do everything possible to reverse the anti-Hungarian decisions and restore the status quo ante."

He added: "We expect the Ukrainian leadership to do everything to maintain the stability that exists in Transcarpathia despite the war."

Tamás Menczer also stressed that the continuous and systematic harassment and disenfranchisement of a national minority was unacceptable if Ukraine wanted to become a member of the European Union.
