New Asian Cardinal was three years in prison

Newly appointed Cardinal Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun (73) of Pakse, Laos, was imprisoned in 1984 for “making propaganda for Jesus”. He had preached in small villages without Communist government permission.

Ling was imprisoned for three years “with chains on my arms and my legs”, reports Catholic Herald. According to the Cardinal the imprisonment was necessary for his “conversion and purification”.
