French Cardinal Again Acquitted of False Accusations

The state attorney in Lyon, France, closed a second case against Lyon Cardinal Philippe Barbarin. An anonymous, described in the media as a "high responsible of the Interior Ministry", filed a complaint against Barbarin trying to implicate him in a case of homosexual abuse of a young adult that allegedly happened before 1994. Barbarin was appointed to Lyon in 2002.

In a statement Lyon diocese expressed hopes "that the media which reported the charges in 2016 at length, will now be moved by the same concern to inform of this second closing of a case without further action. Cardinal Barbarin welcomes the fact that the judicial authority has brought a little truth and peace after passionate and sometimes defamatory polemics."
