OF OUR HOLY FAITH,
By the P. Alonso de Andrade
FROM THE COMPANY OF JESUS.
PRAYER TO BEGIN
By the sign of the Holy Cross, from our enemies delier us, Lord, our God. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
My Lord and my God: I firmly believe that you are here, that you see me, that you hear me. I adore you with deep reverence. I ask you for forgiveness of my sins and grace to make this time of prayer fruit. My Mother Immaculate, Saint Joseph, my father and lord, my guardian Angel: intercede for me.
MEDITATION V.
Thursday of the second week of Advent.
Of the Purest Conception of our Lady.
POINT ONE. Consider how having determined the Eternal Word to become man, to honor human nature, and to raise the Blessed Virgin to be his Mother, he worked out the fabric, as St. Ambrose says, that he had to dress in the lineage of Abraham and David, adorning it, and enriching it with so many and so holy progenitors full of heroic virtues, beginning so many centuries before to arrange the inn in which he had to live, and to season the mass that his body was to form: from which you must learn how much disposition is necessary in the soul to receive God with dignity, And that none is too much for the highness of such a sovereign guest, and with how much time, and how much purpose you must have to receive him in your poor home, and ask our Lord for his grace for it, and that he disposes you and makes you worthy of receiving him, as he arranged a dignified abode for himself in the Blessed Virgin.
POINT II. Consider with what virtues he prevented San Joaquín and Santa Ana to make them worthy parents of such a daughter that they were, great holiness and piety, honesty and patience, afflicting them for many years with a note of sterility, reproach and affront of that people, tanning, as San Gerónimo says, with these calamities and works the skin of which he had to dress, as the most precious ones are tanned with the inclement weather, and learn to be patient in the works that God sends you, persuading you, which are garments of his love with which he wants to work you and arrange to make you Mercedes: humble yourself in his presence, and thank him for them, having them and esteming them as mercedes of his divine hand, surrendering to his divine will, and asking him to do himself entirely in you, so on earth, as in heaven.
POINT III. Consider how in the Conception of the Most Pure Virgin he prevented the grace to guilt, preserving her from all stain, because it was not fair that she had the fabric that she had to dress, nor the house in which she had to live, nor the one that was to be her Mother, enriching her of course with so many heroic virtues, that she could be honored by her Mother on earth, as of her Father in heaven: enjoy her happiness, and give her a thousand congratulations for her highness and dignity: rejoice to have such a Lady and such a Queen, contemplate the joy of The angels, and the condolences they gave him at the moment of his Conception: accompany them with the utmost devotion, and offer yourself with them to their worship and service.
POINT IV. Consider on the one hand the ojeriza that God has to sin, because not even the shadow of him allowed in his Blessed Mother, and see how much you must hate him, and try with all your strength that his stain does not fall on you. And on the other hand contemplate the graces that the Most Pure Virgin would give of course to her Creator for the mercies that she received from her hand, and how from that moment until the last of her life she did not cease to praise and serve him, love her and revere her, always growing in holiness, and advancing the flow of her virtues without interruption or lukewarmness, walking from virtue to virtue to the summit of perfection.
PRAYER TO END EVERY DAY
I thank you, my God, for the good purposes, affections and inspirations that you have communicated to me in this meditation. I ask you for help to put them to work. My Mother Immaculate, Saint Joseph, my father and lord, my guardian Angel: intercede for me.
Daily offer of works
Come Holy Spirit
Inflames our hearts
In the redeeming longings of the Heart of Christ
So that we really offer
Our people and works
In union with Him
For the redemption of the world
My Lord and my God Jesus Christ
For the Immaculate Heart of Mary
I consecrate myself to your Heart
And I offer myself with you to the Father
In your Holy Sacrifice of the altar
With my prayer and my work
Today's sufferings and joys
In reparation for our sins
And that your Kingdom may come to us.
I ask you in particular
For the Pope and his intentions,
For our Bishop and his intentions,
For our parish priest and his intentions.
