Spain: Socialist Regime Fights Benedictines
Father Santiago Cantera, prior of the abbey, has warned that this would require the approval of the Holy See.
The Socialists want to turn the Valle de los Caídos into a place of “democratic memory”, declare the Fundación de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos "extinct" and claim that it is incompatible with “constitutional [= socialist] principles".
The foundation manages the basilica, the abbey, and the cross commemorating the victims of the Spanish Civil War.
