Today the Church celebrates the feast of St. Charbel Maklouf, the "Padre Pio of the East." This 19th-century Lebanese saint, whose body remained intact until his beatification, lived most of his life in a hermitage and performed miracles even after death.
When his brother monks went to his hermitage to care for his body, and to transfer it to the monastery, they were amazed that St. Charbel could live in such austere and difficult circumstances. It was very cold, and he had only a stone for a pillow. For many years a healing oil seeped out of his tomb.
Penance, prayer, love of God and neighbor. He showed us the way.
