Lebanese Catholic priest Father Majdi Allawi is a convert to Catholicism from Islam. “I met Jesus when I was a little Muslim boy, sitting in at Mass. I also met him through the Bible, the biggest school of love. I became attached to his soul and his heart and I was very curious to learn more about him,” he says about his conversion.

True many Protestants ignore - even despise Our Lady. One fundamentalist guy I got into a heated argument with said she wasn't important and the [blasphemy alert] "God could have used a dog to birth Jesus". I stopped and "shook the dust" from my feet (metaphorically) and left that man in his error. Too far gone.

The 'ideal' family image for Catholics has been a Father and Mother, often described in terms of Head and Heart. Both compliment each other and are models for their offspring's. That is, as God intended. Any deviation of that Divinely instituted model, be that natural or unnatural, brings about unforeseen consequences for the children. Adoption of a child is difficult enough for many adoptees as well as for the adopted child, Adding a deviation from the 'ideal' to the mix and we are setting up the adopted child for a life of emotional struggle that is exponentially way above the norm of its counterpart in an ordinary family.

Those poor children. Pray for them. Did anyone ask them if they wanted 'two daddies'? I remember reading an article by a young woman who had been brought up by her 'gay' father and a series of 'boyfriends'. I wish I could remember her name or find that article. Anyone reading what she went through, would know never to allow 'gay' adoption. I think she writes and lectures on her experiences now.

Today the Church celebrates the feast of St. Charbel Maklouf, the "Padre Pio of the East." This 19th-century Lebanese saint, whose body remained intact until his beatification, lived most of his life in a hermitage and performed miracles even after death.

When his brother monks went to his hermitage to care for his body, and to transfer it to the monastery, they were amazed that St. Charbel could live in such austere and difficult circumstances. It was very cold, and he had only a stone for a pillow. For many years a healing oil seeped out of his tomb.
Penance, prayer, love of God and neighbor. He showed us the way.

Born in the late fifteenth century, St. Jerome was once consumed by desires for rank and status, leading him to a military career. However, God used his capture during a skirmish to show him the vanity of such pursuits.
Imprisoned and chained, St. Jerome realized that true victory is found in Christ. He prayed fervently to the Blessed Mother, who miraculously led him out of his cell.
Freed from physical and spiritual chains, he dedicated his life to God, became a priest, and founded the Order of Somascha. St. Jerome devoted himself to serving the sick and orphans, ultimately succumbing to an illness while caring for those in need.

The saint, on the surface, may be all the things the respectable man is not—a holy fool, or a man of contradiction and uncouthness. He may be obsessive with the things of Heaven at the expense of manners and convention. He would rather die than commit a mortal sin. He is always “a bit much.”

1. “Observe diligently the motions of nature and grace,” says the Imitation of Christ, “for they move with great contrariety and subtlety, and can hardly be distinguished but by a spiritual man, and one that is inwardly enlightened.” (Imit. of Christ, Bk. III, c. 54.)
The struggle between fallen nature and grace is due to original sin, which extinguished in us the supernatural life and gave rise to the disharmony which exists between our lower faculties and reason, and between reason and God. Even the Saints experienced this fearful internal battle between good and evil. “I see another law in my members,” says St. Paul, “warring against the law of my mind.” (Rom. 7:23) Elsewhere he complains that “the flesh lusts against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh,” (Gal. 5:17) and that the temptations of the flesh assailed him so strongly that he pleaded with God to save him. But God's reply to his entreaties was: “My grace is sufficient for thee, for strength is made perfect in weakness …More

July 19 - Bl. Peter Cresci - Franciscan Saint of the Day
The Life of Bl. Peter Cresci, Confessor, Third Order (d. 1323) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Jul 19. Bl. Peter Cresci was born in Foligno, Italy in a wealthy family and had a conversion from a dissolute life at about age 30 and joined the Third Order to do penance and feeding the poor. He grew in holiness and good reputation but had to defend himself against his former dissolute friends who were mad at him for no longer spending his money on them. Reflection is on our life as a Pilgrimage. Our life is a voyage to our home in heaven, merely traveling through this world temporarily, and that we must strive to take the right road, the one that leads to heaven rather than the one that leads to hell. Keeping the goal in mind helps us to bear the crosses along the way to heaven. For more on Bl. Peter Cresci - roman-catholic-saints.com/blessed-peter-cresci.html
