Priest Attacked During Confession

Last Sunday, a young man physically attacked a priest during confession in the Cathedral Basilica of Cuzco, Peru.

The incident took place at around 7.55am, minutes before the start of the 8am Eucharist.

The priest, who was already dressed in his liturgical vestments, was approached in the sacristy by the stranger, who insisted on making his confession, claiming that someone had recommended that he do so with him.

During the conversation in the sacristy, the young man came up with crazy things like claiming that his brother was a friend of Pope Francis, that they owned an artificial intelligence called 'X' and that he was going to visit his father in Machu Picchu.

Not hearing any mention of sin, the priest reminded him that the confessional was for confessing sins.

The young man responded with insults and then punched the priest in the face.

The faithful intervened and stopped the assailant, who was restrained until the police arrived.

Meanwhile, the priest was able to retire to clean up and, despite the incident, preside over the 8:00 Eucharist.
