Gaenswein - with Mr. Seewald in the background - claims that J. Ratzinger resigned in 2013 not in 2014 because of... the Football World Cup in 2014 which pushed WYD from 2014 to 2013 and Benedict XVI was not able to fly across the Atlantic. That is why, according to Msgr. Gaenswein, popes do resign).
Then, there was the "butler affair" in Vatican, which was not the butler affair at all but the struggle for power in post-conciliar Vatican between Scylla and Charybdis: the Opus Dei clique represented, among others, by Gaenswein and the "Jesuit party" of St. Gallen. Such an image ensues from the book of G. Nuzzi Sua Santità (saggio) - Wikipedia who does his best to whitewash the former side but IMHO fails (BTW an interesting cameo by Msgr. Vigano there).
