Leo XIV Disputed the Immutability of Catholic Moral Teaching
Talking to NcRegister.com on 18 September, Ureta referred to Leo XIV’s CruxNow.com interview.
Ureta explained that, from the outset, the Church's response to such polarisation has been to resolve the matter definitively through dogmatic teaching, rather than postponing or deferring it.
He also expressed his perplexity at Pope Leo XIV’s suggestion that it is highly unlikely the Church’s teaching on sexuality and marriage will change in the near future.
"The point is not whether such a change is likely or unlikely; the Church's teaching in these areas cannot change at all," Ureta explained.
He added that the Pope should affirm this with absolute clarity, leaving no room for doubt or ambiguity.
Philosopher Edward Feser added on X.com: "As in any conflict between heresy and orthodoxy, the only Catholics who are 'polarising' where the Church’s teaching on sexual morality is concerned are those who reject it."
Feser continued: "It is never divisive in itself to uphold the Church’s perennial teaching on a matter; it is always divisive to reject or obscure it."
