Meditation for the Eve of Pentecost

Excerpt from "Spirit of RP AVRILLON to spend Advent and Lent in a holy manner":

SATURDAY, EVE OF PENTECOST

Day of

PRACTICAL appeal:

Start the day by making reparation to the Holy Spirit for the faults that everyone might have made since the Ascension Day; you are all on the verge of possessing the most precious of all treasures; redouble your prayers, your desires and your fervor to attract the Holy Spirit within you; say often: Holy Spirit, draw me to you; Holy Spirit, make me worthy to draw you into me.

MEDITATION:

1st point.
In the attraction of the Holy Spirit, we must consider the action of Almighty God on our soul, by which he attracts it to himself, and our cooperation in responding to this attraction and in attracting it in our turn in We. God had promised us through the prophet Hosea (Ch. 11) that he would draw us to himself by the sweet bonds of charity; and he says in Jeremiah (Ch. 13): I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I attracted you by the compassion I had on you. Jesus Christ before dying said to his apostles: When I am lifted up on the cross, I will draw all things to myself (John). There is no one who does not have his particular attraction; but there are very few who have enough fidelity to respond to it. One has its attraction for the interior life, for prayer; this one, for penance; this one, for works of charity. It is on faithfulness to follow our attraction that our advancement in virtue, and sometimes even our eternal salvation, depends. If you are not faithful to follow Him, fear that the Holy Spirit will no longer speak to your heart. Say often with the bride the sacred canticles: Draw me after you, O celestial husband, and we will run to the ardor of your perfumes.

2nd point. Although the Holy Spirit always warns us, he nevertheless wants us to second him with all our efforts and to cooperate in his divine favors. He who made us without us, says Saint Augustine, will not save us without us. He wants us to call him; he listens with pleasure to our prayers, and he even hears, says the prophet, the preparations of our hearts (Psalm. 118). He allows himself to be lured, all God that he is, to the point of black nothingness; this Almighty allows himself to be disarmed by the voice of his creature; he comes to visit her, and he takes pleasure in conversing and staying with her. Promise the Holy Spirit to be faithful until death to all his inspirations, attentive to his voice, courageous to follow his divine movements, docile to let yourself be led by him alone, this is the way to attract him into you and keep it when you have had the pleasure of receiving it.

FEELINGS:

Forgive me, O my God, for all my past infidelities; make me feel the full force of your divine attraction; break my chains; draw me powerfully to you, I am resolved to be faithful to you from now on; make me worthy to draw you into me; bow down the heavens, and descend to my nothingness; let yourself be attracted by your creature who desires you ardently; I will receive you with joy, I will listen to you with attention, I will obey you with respect, and I will preserve you with fidelity until the last breath of my life.

FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Peace

The Holy Spirit cannot tolerate trouble, especially that which comes from passions and sins which never leave the soul in peace; it only descends on peaceful, tranquil and rested souls; and when he descends, he perfects this peace, and establishes it so perfectly in a soul, that it is for it a delicious fruit on which it feeds and which it never abandons, whatever disgrace happens to it. Examine whether you have this peace with God, with your neighbor and with yourself. Work to acquire it, and ask for it with great ardor from the Holy Spirit.
