Imposition of Western Culture: Wednesday at the Synod of Bishops, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos, Nigeria, has lambasted the imposition of Western cultures on Africans. Released and Arrested: Father Hanna Jallouf, the Franciscan parish priest kidnapped on the night of last Sunday to Monday with 20 parishioners by a group of jihadist has been released. There is no news of the release of the men who were kidnapped with him. Four women who had also been kidnapped had already been freed yesterday. Fr Jallouf has now been placed under "house arrest" at the Convent of St. Joseph, in the village of Knayeh by an Islamic Court.

A Very Beautiful Life: At 2:25 a.m. Thursday morning, Shane Michael Haley was born. His parents, Jenna Gassew and Dan Haley knew that he would have a short life because he suffered from anencephaly, a rare, complex brain condition. At 6:15 a.m., “after meeting his entire family and being baptized into the Catholic faith,” Shane died peacefully in his mother’s arms. After that the family posted on Facebook: “Shane spent his entire life in the arms of people that loved him unconditionally and we don’t think you could ask for a more beautiful life then that.”
