In our last episode, we explored pride as a disorder of the intellect, the moment when the self no longer submits itself to truth. But once the intellect weakens, something else quickly begins filling the vacuum. Appetite begins demanding authority it was never meant to possess.
The Christian tradition has never taught that the body is evil. Christianity is not hostile to desire, beauty, pleasure, or human affection. The problem begins when appetite ceases to serve the good and instead begins governing the soul itself.
