A flash in the pan
Sunday December 4 - 2nd of Advent
Dear brothers and sisters, in the second Sunday of Advent both Saint Paul, in the passage from the letter to the Romans, and Saint John the Baptist, in the passage from the Gospel of Matthew, invite us to make a small examination of conscience.
In fact, we should work on our heart, every day, with the help of the holy Spirit, in order to increase the degree of the purity of our love toward God and our brothers and sisters.
Actually the danger we run is that due to our negligence our love could be reduced to a "flash in the pan" which burns out in an instant in front of the first difficulties and trials of life.
The Word of God, on the contrary, exhorts us to persevere as true "warriors of the light" in the fight against evil with the certainty that our Heavenly Father will not let us lack his consolations which, strengthening us, will turn us into witnesses of hope, in the world. That is witnesses of the complete and definitive victory that God, Father , will give to His Sons and Daughters, in Christ, over hatred, violence and death.
