The Gospel of Peace
Sunday May 25 VI of Easter
Dear brothers and sisters, in the passage from the Gospel of John that we're going to listen to next Sunday, May 25, Jesus reveals to us the secret of true peace. A peace, the one Jesus gives us, that is obtained, paradoxically, by waging war. In fact, there is one war, one single war that we must all fight, as Pope Francis has reminded us, and that is the war against evil. First of all the evil, which, by contaminating the human heart, extinguishes ardor, weakens vigor, disintegrates fraternity, clouds the horizon of hope, weakens the strength of faith, and dilutes the identity and dignity of the children of God...
Precisely because of the evil that lurks in the heart of every man and woman, as Pope Leo XIV reminded us last Sunday, May 18, we find ourselves living today "a time of discord, where there are too many wounds caused by hatred, violence, prejudice, the fear of what is different, and an economic paradigm that exploits the Earth's resources and marginalises the poorest." The "super weapon," so to speak, that Jesus gives us to "make peace explode" in the hearts of men and in the world is the Holy Spirit, the Love that proceeds from the Father and the Son, capable of renewing the face of the earth.
