St Benedict, March 21

Remnant TV's CATHOLIC SAINTS AND HOLY DAYS pays homage to the patron saint of Europe, Saint Benedict of Nursia. St. Benedict the founder of Western Monasticism, was born at Nursia in AD 480; died at Monte Cassino in AD 543. In AD 530 he founded the abbey of Monte Cassino. He is most noted for writing his "Rule of Saint Benedict," containing a set of rules for his monks to follow. It has been used in the founding of countless religious orders, and is regarded as the most influential book in Western Monasticism. St. Benedict, Pray for us.
