Francis in Trieste: Priest Denies Communion in Hand

Francis, 87, made a flying visit to the northeastern Italian city of Trieste on Sunday. It was his fourth trip to Italy in just over two months.

The Eucharist was presided over by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, 68. Francis was present, sitting as usual on a side.

Although there were many underemployed bishops and priests on the stage, women also distributed Communion. Most of the faithful took it with their hands. One woman (white t-shirt, long olive skirt) took the communion and left it in her hand without consuming it.

A priest with a long white beard ignored the outstretched hands of several of the faithful and gave Communion in the mouth. The faithful immediately understood and followed suit.
