Rex Regum.

Today, 25 November, is the feast of Christ the king. This mosaic is from the old apse of the papal dining hall of the former Lateran Palace in Rome, the Triclinium Leoninum. It has been preserved on the outside of the remains of the building. The mosaic in the apse dates from c.800, the year Charlemagne was crowned in Rome. This scene depicts Christ with Constantine and St Peter. On one hand he gives the keys of the kingdom of heaven and earth to Peter, and on the other he give temporal power to the Emperor, for He is King of kings.
