Saints Octavius, Solutor & Adventor | Brave Soldiers of the Theban Legion | Catechism for Kid
St Joseph's Corner
Did you know there were Christian soldiers who chose Jesus over the Roman Empire, even when it cost them everything? In this episode of Catechism for Kids, we honour Saints Octavius, Solutor, and Adventor, three heroic soldiers from the famous Theban Legion, martyred around 297 AD near Turin, Italy. The Roman Emperor Maximian demanded that the legion kill innocent Christians. The Theban soldiers, who were Christians themselves, refused — choosing loyalty to Christ over obedience to an unjust command. Many were killed, including Octavius, Solutor, and Adventor, who escaped briefly but were eventually captured and executed for their faith. Their courage teaches children that true strength doesn’t come from swords or shields… but from a heart that chooses what is good and right.
Topics we’ll cover: Who the Theban Legion were Why the Roman Empire persecuted Christians The bravery of Octavius, Solutor, and Adventor Their escape and martyrdom near Turin How they became powerful saints and protectors Why their feast day is celebrated on November 20
Lesson: Courage means standing for what is right — even when it’s frightening. Just like Saints Octavius, Solutor, and Adventor, we can choose Jesus with brave hearts.
