Pope Changes Conditions for Canonisation

On Tuesday, Pope Francis published the Motu Proprio “Maiorem hac dilectionem” to establish a new way to canonisation. Until now, only martyrs or those who lived a life of heroic virtue could be canonised.

Now there is a third way: living normal Christian virtues but accepting a premature death for the good of others. Unlike for martyrs, a miracle is still required.
