Vatican Court Journalist: "Touching Young Men's Genitals May Not Be Sexual Abuse"
Two canonical tribunals found that Príncipi had fondled male teenagers and that he should be laicized. Príncipi is a close friend of Tucho Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
In September, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra of the Vatican Secretariat of State, issued a lighter sentence, but without any legal authority. The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith overturned this decree and upheld the laicization.
John Allen apparently tries to justify Archbishop Peña Parra and minimize Príncipi's behavior ("not entirely clear how guilty Príncipi really is").
Príncipi has been in the Charismatic Movement for 16 years. He has put his hands on the genitals of young men, under the pretext of praying against their homosexual temptations.
The homosexual groping was frequent, mostly of adults, either in "private settings" or even in public [shameless acting in front of others is a known manipulative tactic of abusers].
Three male accusers claim that Príncipi manipulated them into participating in his settings.
Allen, previously a gifted wordsmith, tried to spin this case of homosexual behavior. He only admits that Príncipi is guilty of "terrible judgment" but sows doubts that the molesting is a homosexual abuse (questioning "sexual pleasure" in Príncipi's head).
