Cardinal Zuppi Stages Himself as Pope Francis II
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, president of the Italian bishops, apparently wants to reassure the cardinals that he would be a worthy successor to Francis in view of the upcoming conclave, writes LaNuovaBq.it (12 March).
In recent days, the prelate sent the veiled message that the problem of adulterers could be solved "pastorally" with a more generous recourse to the ecclesiastical tribunals that grant "annulments" (= divorces).
He further linked to the homosexual underground by looking the other way when his vicar general, Davide Baraldi, spoke before a lecture given by Rev. Simone Bruno, who believes that adultery and practiced homosexuality are "not sinful".
Finally, he wrote a public message, a sort of pastoral letter, to his "brothers and sisters in Islam" in which he equated Ramadan with Lent and said that "the most intense reading of the sacred texts, for us the Bible and for you the Koran, sustains the spiritual life and urges it to acts of mercy".
