Rome prays for China.

The call issued in Benedict XVI's letter to Chinese Catholics for a Day of Prayer for China was answered in Rome, and the Pontifical Urbanianum University held the first meeting of Catholics of Sino-Italian descent.

The Coordinator of the Italian Episcopal Conference's Apostolate to the Chinese, Fr. Cui Xing Gao, commented on the meeting.

"At the end of his letter addressed to the Chinese Church, Pope Benedict XVI dedicated May 24 as a world day of prayer for the Church in China, for all Chinese people. Thus, we organized, for the first time, this great event in obedience to the Church and the Pope."

He added that people should pray to Mary as helper of China.

"Let us pray to Our Lady, asking her for help for China and Chinese society so that she may protect the Chinese Church."
