Cardinal Bergoglio With Chasuble and Lace

Buenos Aires Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio delivered a homily during Eucharist at the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura in Rome on 18 February 2012 dressed in Roman chasuble and lace.
Only ten years later, during a June 9 audience with clerics from Sicily, he polemicised against lace in the liturgy.
In 2012, however, Bergoglio still needed the lace in order to maintain a neo-conservative image and not damage his career planning.
