Vatican Has No Mediator Role Between Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian Catholic Head

The ever increasingly incompetent Vatican is not mediating between Ukraine and Russia, Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of Kyiv, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and staunched nationalist, told Rbc.ua (December 24).

In October, the Archbishop presented to Francis the version that "Russia is systematically destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure". Francis wrote down his words and used them in his next Sunday address after the Angelus prayer. "Stop the killing of the innocent in Ukraine," he said.

Regarding a possible mediation by the Vatican, Archbishop Shevchuk explained that Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin has outlined specific conditions: both sides must agree and request mediation, and be willing to implement recommended solutions.

"At present, none of these conditions exist," Major Archbishop Shevchuk said.

Francis has called for peace negotiations and does not side with Western Ukraine, which Archbishop Sviatoslav represents (5 million Catholics).

To be fair, Francis - like Trump, has desired the end of hostilities BUT was shouted down by those who want "total victory" [including the archbishop cited in the article]. Any attempt to end the conflict without looking at the roles NATO, the EU, the Obama's administration, U. S. Congress, and the multi-national military industrial complex play/played to escalate the fighting is inadequate; to just say it's merely Putin's fault won't lead to peace.
If the Church does not even try to work for peace in this terrible war, how do we expect her to deal with sin and salvation?
