Bishop Bätzing Defends Homosexual "Blessing" Ceremonies

Bishop Georg Bätzing of Limburg, president of the German Bishops’ Conference, sees no reason to withdraw the German homosexual "blessing" ceremonies. He made this comment on Monday at the opening of the bishops' conference meeting in Fulda.

Monsignor Bätzing emphasised an importance of moving forward in line with the rest of the Church worldwide.

Pope Leo XIV noted in a recent interview that rituals for the "blessing" of homosexual couples exist in parts of Northern Europe but contradict the Vatican's declaration 'Fiducia supplicans'.

However, Bishop Bätzing underlines that Leo XIV has not retracted anything from 'Fiducia supplicans', which he described as an important signal.

"We have developed the blessing ceremony, made moderate adjustments for our pastoral situation, but we have not published an official ritual for blessings," said Monsignor Bätzing. "Instead, we leave this in the hands of local pastoral ministers."

He further underlined that the bishops conference’s guideline 'Blessing Gives Love Strength', was prepared in consultation with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome, thus under the pro-homosexual Cardinal Tucho Fernández.

They are having defacto Catholic gay marriage ceremonies. The Church in Germany is on life support.

I did see a gay wedding at one of the 18th century Cathedrals about 4 blocks outside Vatican City when I last visited Rome. I was in the Cathedral observing the sacred art when it occurred. I didn't stick around, but what surprised me was to see a Catholic priest in a green vestment sitting on the side of the altar. So, there was no mass but the blessing had an atmosphere and all of the aspects of a wedding ceremony.

He looks (and probably acts) like Charles Laughton.
