European Court of Human Rights Sides With Jehova’s Witnesses

On June 10, the European Court of Human Rights ruled unanimously that a 2004 Russian court decision banning the Jehovah’s Witnesses was illegal. In its decision, the court recalled that “freedom of thought, conscience and religion [is] one of the foundations of a democratic society”. The court ordered the Russian government to pay the Jehovah’s Witnesses 20,000 Euros in damages and 50,000 Euros for expenses.

Sex Trafficking is No Problem

The Obama administration has loosened a ban on international aid to organizations that support prostitution or sex trafficking, the National Catholic Register reports. Under the new policy, an organization may receive United States funds and, at the same time, have an “affiliated entity” that advocates for prostitution and sex trafficking.

Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi has said at a Mass for slain Bishop Luigi Padovese that this murder is a reminder of the dangers facing Christians in Turkey and elsewhere in Europe. Learning the Extraordinary Rite

The Latin Mass Society of England and Wales is organizing a residential training conference for priests wishing to learn the Extraordinary Rite. The conference will take place at Downside Abbey, one of England’s most prestigious monasteries. It will run from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 August. Expert tuition will be provided on a small group basis. There will be tuition in Low Mass, Missa Cantata and Missa Solemnis. Streams for beginners and more advanced students will be available.
