The Saint Andrew Christmas Novena | Christmas Anticipation Prayer | Catechism for Kids
The Saint Andrew Christmas Novena, also called the Christmas Anticipation Prayer, is a beautiful Catholic devotion prayed from November 30 (Feast of St. Andrew) until December 24. Unlike most novenas, this one isn’t prayed for nine days — instead, it is prayed for 25 days, helping our hearts prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. The prayer is simple, short, and full of longing for the Saviour: “Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold…” Children learn that this prayer is like knocking gently on heaven’s door every day of Advent, asking Jesus to come close to us with His love and grace. In this episode, kids will discover:
why this devotion starts on Saint Andrew’s feast day
how praying this helps us prepare for Jesus’ birth
how to pray the novena at home
