INITIAL SENTENCE
O Mary, Mother of mercy: remember the children you have in purgatory and, presenting our suffrages and your merits to your Son, intercede so that he may forgive them their debts and take them out of those darkness into the admirable light of his glory, where they enjoy your sweetest sight and that of your blessed Son.
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, intercede together with your Wife before your Son for the souls of purgatory. Amen.

DAY 17
Meditation
Way to help the souls of Purgatory through justice
The souls of Purgatory are rescued through justice when their pain is redeemed with alms or discounted with fasts. Almsgiving is a price that is exhibited to compensate for the rights of Divine Justice, gives a satisfaction equivalent to punishment, frees from the bonds of sin and admits the participation of Divine grace and eternal life; it is like a water that falls on Purgatory and that mitigates and extinguishes the flames of that active fire, and among the works of charity that the living can exercise in favor of the deceased, it is one of the most powerful to give them glory. The Lord does not consider so much the amount of alms but the affection with which it is made. Let us be, therefore, rich or poor, let's all try to give according to our state as much alm as we can for the good of Purgatory, that the greater the merit of doing it, the more copious the redemption of those blessed souls will be. The pious oblations of oil, wax or of any other kind that are made to the Church in suffrage of the deceased produce refreshment and salvation. But they are counted among the alms that serve the worship of religion and the relief of the faithful. Another kind of alms are also all the works of temporary or spiritual charity for others and every time they are exercised with the intention of helping the souls of Purgatory, a double fruit is reaped: that of helping at the same time the needy of this life and the much more needy of the other. Oh, how delicious she is prepared for our charity! Let us implore divine help so that the abundance of this corresponds to the number and commitment of the devoted workers.
Finally, the penalty due to Divine Justice is discounted, with fasts; under the name of fasting all species are understood, not only of voluntary hardships, but also of the necessary tribulations of life, all works being satisfactory by sins, who is there who cannot somehow mortify himself, either in the powers of the soul, or in the senses of the body? Who is one who does not suffer many evils in the course of life, whether general or particular? Why, for the benefit of those souls, don't we traffic in these afflictions? Each of our sufferings is for them a true relief, as if they themselves suffered it, when we offer them to God in discount of their sorrows. We lose nothing of merit by acting in this way, rather, we increase it, because to the patience of cope with the evils we add the charity of helping others. Let us, therefore, take the use of tolerating and offering all our works in suffrage of the souls of Purgatory, that in this way we will please God better, we will deserve more for ourselves and we will help them much more.
Prayer
We offer you, O Lord!, all the sorrows of our life, and how much we suffer in the body, how much we tolerate in the soul, we offer you everything in the suffrage of the holy souls of Purgatory. You have filled us with those goods that passed into our hands from those of our deceased, who kept nothing for themselves but bequeathed everything to us. More now they, oh how in need of our help! Moved, therefore, by compassion for their sorrows, we put a part of their goods in the hands of the poor by means of alms. Deign, oh great God!, to accept them on their own, so that finally satisfied the items of their debt, they can be admitted to the longed possession of the heavenly inheritance. Amen.Eternal Father, for the most precious blood of Jesus, mercy.
