The identity of this service is derived from the a priori assumption that it is Roman Catholic. The music is ghastly, the ars celebrandi is ghastly. The only thing visible which tells one that this is an unfortunate Roman Catholic Mass is the homily, vestments and the Liturgy of the Eucharist (rubrics being followed - but only just).
I do wonder whether or not the poor unfortunate shut-ins actually watch this..... seeing that it is forced down their throats because they just cannot get out to Mass anywhere else. Herein lies yet another dimension of the problem. The people for whom this Mass is televised are forced to accept a 'down-at-heel' liturgy. It is akin to offering a hungry person at ones door a moldy piece of bread saying, "you are hungry, take it and be thankful for small mercies!", when one can more than afford to offer a full meal AND clothing!!
In terms of Christian worship, not to mention Roman Catholic Christian values, this is a Liturgy in dire straights indeed!! One cannot help feel worried about the shut-ins......
