The problem I have with this song is it is not Catholic in theology. To ask if you were there when they crucified my Lord is to speak of Calvary as though it is an event of the past that took place 2,000 years ago. At every Catholic Mass we are literally at Calvary itself, so to ask if we were there 2,000 years ago completely overlooks the fact of Calvary right in front of us and eviscerates a Catholic understanding of the Mass.
