The Foyers de Charité Condemn Their Co-Founder

The Foyers de Charité ascribe to their co-founder, Father Georges Finet (+1990) “seriously deviant behaviour.”

The Foyers are mixed communities of about 1000 members in 40 countries who run retreat houses. Finet co-founded them in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure, France, in 1936 with the mystic Marthe Robin (+1981) whose spiritual father he was.

A commission, established in September 2019, collected 143 testimonies concerning the period between 1945 and 1983. The number of witnesses increases after 1961.

26 women, mainly former students in the Foyer’s school in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure, at the time between 10 and 14 years old, denounced Finet's behaviour during confessions.

They recount touching of the body, sometimes on the skin under the clothes, and intrusive questions about their sexuality.
