Texas: Five Holy Masses Banned, While FSSP Church Already Crowded

The five diocesan Holy Masses in the Roman rite in Tyler, Texas, which will be cancelled by 30 November, are packed with young families and converts, writes Rorate-caeli.blogspot.com (9 November).

"Cancelling all five of the Latin Masses in the Diocese will place an enormous strain on its single FSSP parish".

The [for now] remaining parish of St Joseph, run by the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter, is already now crowded.

The five Holy Masses are currently celebrated in Tyler (cathedral), Malakoff, Texarkana, Gilmer, and Nacogdoches. People from Texarkana face a two-hour drive to Tyler if they want to attend Holy Mass.

There is no way that five additional congregations can be squeezed into St Joseph's.

One reason why Monsignor Joseph Strickland was removed as Bishop of Tyler in September 2023 was because he would not implement 'Traditionis Custodes'.

He stated: "As a shepherd and protector of my Diocese, I could not take actions which I knew with certainty would injure part of my flock and deprive them of the spiritual goods which Christ entrusted to His Church."

The FSSP will simply have to expand its ministry and its physical facilities there in the East Texas area; enlarging its “footprint” in that region. Yes, what has occurred is most certainly a challenge, but it is one that they should relish and take on with joy, seeing and receiving it as an open door of opportunity for the growth of their Priestly Fraternity and for the spiritual enrichment and enhancement of the Faithful whom they are sacredly committed to serving.

I don't see the FSSP growing, do you? Where are their new chapels? Who do you think would be the ones to allow them to expand...?

Wilma Lopez

How long will the FSSP be "allowed" to keep this Mass?

Steve D

Bergoglio and his henchman ain't gonna allow the FSSP to grow, they won't even give them a long ago promised bishop.
