Benedict XVI: An end to violence in the Middle East.
On Saturday, February 20th, Benedict XVI received the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Saad Hariri, in private audience at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
A statement from the Press Office of the Holy See following the audience says that the talks between the Pope and the Prime Minister took place in an atmosphere of great cordiality, and covered a number of topics including the exemplary coexistence of different religious communities in Lebanon. The Pope and the Prime Minister also underlined the need to find a just and comprehensive solution to the conflicts in the region, and stressed the importance of intercultural and interreligious dialogue to promote peace and justice. The statement goes on to say that Prime Minister Hariri expressed a deep appreciation for the contribution that the Catholic Church offers for the benefit of the whole society, especially through its education, health and charitable operations.
