Francis Bishop Distinguishes Himself by What He Does NOT Have
- Brugnotto dispensed with an episcopal coat of arms and motto because he found that it was not "obligatory" [at least not for a Vatican II bishop].
- He considers the coat of arms "obsolete" because it comes from "aristocratic and noble families" - which seems to be something evil for Brugnotto.
- He doesn't have an episcopal motto because "I didn't know what to choose, there were so many statements I liked."
- Important for Brugnotto is "the relationship of the bishop with the presbyterate" and the need to "move forward together" - but experience teaches that this jargon is often used by bishops who impose a left-wing authoritarianism.
