Cardinal Tobin Refused to Call Homosexuality a Sin

Newark Cardinal Joseph Tobin personally welcomed on May 21 a so called pilgrimage of homosexualists in his cathedral, but had not intention to call them to conversion, he told the New York Times last week. He didn’t want to “combine his welcome with a criticism”.

The New York Times sees in this a significant symbolism, “a cardinal welcoming a group of gay Catholics, some of whom were married to same-sex spouses, to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the center of a cathedral, no questions asked”.

The liberal Cardinal received “a fair amount” of critical letters from Catholics.
