New Archbishop of Calcutta Hides in Civil-Clothes: "No Peace Without Protecting Mother Earth"
Aged 63, he is younger than many Indian bishops.
Well Connected in Rome
Monsignor Frank has a doctorate and a long career in canon law. He was a professor of canon law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University and a visiting professor at the Alphonsian Academy.
In 2023, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Asansol, a relatively new (founded in 1997) and small diocese with 17 parishes and 30,000 Catholics.
He was also appointed as a consultor at the Dicastery for Divine Worship and as a commissioner for marriage cases at the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Joy and Peace for Hindus and Sikhs Festivities
In November 2023, he published a message for St Joseph's Catholic School in Asansol.
In it, he offered warm interreligious greetings to Hindus and Sikhs, wishing them peace, unity, and enjoyable celebrations of “Deepavali, the festival of lights”, and “Guru Nanak Jayanti” respectively.
He wished that these festivals might "bring you joy and peace, and help to enhance the spirit of unity and solidarity in your families and communities".
His final paragraph he asked for recycling to not pollute nor "harm" the "mother earth", adding: "Peace is not possible without protecting our mother earth. "
In reality, peace is not possible without Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
