Melbourne: A Bishop Confers Sacrament of Confirmation in the Roman Rite (Pictures)

Retired Auxiliary Bishop Peter John Elliott of Melbourne, Australia, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on July 27th in the Roman Rite.

Such Confirmations were "forbidden" by the failed document Traditiones Custodes in 2021.

In June, the Vatican banned the celebration of the Roman Rite in Melbourne Cathedral. The last Mass on a Wednesday was packed with more than 850 faithful.

Monsignor Elliott is a convert from Anglicanism and a former official of the Pontifical Council for the Family. He was a personal friend of Cardinal Pell.
